Digital Wallets make shopping easy by allowing you to make purchases using your smartphone. Here are the basics that you should know about using this free service.
What is it?
Digital Wallets are exactly what they sound like, wallets that store your credit and debit cards digitally within your smartphone. Different brands of phones have different wallet services. U of I Community Credit Union credit and debit cards can be used on Apple Pay, Samsung Pay, and Android Pay.
How do I use it?
Each digital wallet provider has a slightly different process for making a purchase. However, they all are similar in that you hold your mobile device up to the merchant’s card reader to complete a transaction. No physical card needed!
Is it secure?
Yes, Digital Wallets are a secure way to make purchases. When you open your digital wallet, only the last four digits of your card number are displayed. Your full card number is not even stored on your mobile device, it is transformed into a unique token when the card is added to your digital wallet. This also means that your full card number is not shared with a merchant’s card reader when you are making a purchase, instead they receive your token information along with specific data for the purchase you are making.
How do I add a card?
Apple Pay, Samsung Pay, and Android Pay have different setup requirements. Please see the following based on your device: Apple, Samsung, Android. For your security, you might have to go through a verification process before you can begin using your U of I Community Credit Union debit and/or credit card on your Digital Wallet.
