In collaboration with the University of Illinois and University of Illinois Police, the U of I Community Credit Union has set up a Humanitarian Assistance Account and a GoFundMe campaign to help support the family of missing U of I scholar Yingying Zhang while the search for her continues.

The funds raised will be spent at the discretion of the family for expenses incurred during their time in Champaign-Urbana, and possible rewards for information that helps the University of Illinois Police and responsible law enforcement agencies to find Yingying Zhang and safely return her to her family.

“It’s a terrible situation for their family, our University, and our community,” said E.J. Donaghey, President/Chief Executive Officer. “We wish for her safe return, and we want to do all we can to help support the family during this difficult time.”

Donations can be made via GoFundMe here or by visiting any U of I Community Credit Union branch.

University of Illinois Community Credit Union (UICCU) was recently named as one of the 2017 Best Places to Work in Illinois. The awards program began in 2006 and is promoted by The Daily Herald Business Ledger in partnership with the Human Resources Management Association of Chicago (HRMAC), the Illinois Chamber of Commerce, MRA-The Management Association, the Small Business Advocacy Council, the Greater Oak Brook Chamber of Commerce and Best Companies Group.

This statewide survey and awards program was designed to identify, recognize and honor the best places of employment in Illinois, benefiting the state’s economy, workforce and businesses. The 2017 Best Places to Work in Illinois list is made up of 29 companies in the small employer category (15-99 U.S. employees), 25 companies in the medium employer category (100-499 U.S. employees), and 21 companies in the large employer category (500 or more U.S. employees). UICCU has been named one of the Best Places to Work in Illinois in the medium category.

Companies from across the state entered the two-part process to determine the Best Places to Work in Illinois. The first part consisted of evaluating each nominated company’s workplace policies, practices, and demographics. This part of the process was worth approximately 25% of the total evaluation. The second part consisted of an employee survey to measure the employee experience. This part of the process was worth approximately 75% of the total evaluation. The combined scores determined the top companies and the final ranking. Best Companies Group managed the overall registration and survey process in Illinois and also analyzed the data and used their expertise to determine the final rankings.

UICCU will be recognized and honored at the Best Places to Work in Illinois awards ceremony coordinated by The Daily Herald Business Ledger on May 18 and will be profiled in a special publication on June 26. The final rankings will be announced at the event and announced on the Business Ledger website (www.dhbusinessledger.com).

The 4th Annual Trick or Treating with the Stars took place on Sunday, October 23rd at the Ubben Basketball Complex.

Each year, the community is invited to join University of Illinois Athletics, the Illinois Women’s Basketball Team, and fun characters for a family-friendly trick or treating event. Admission is free and kids are encouraged to wear costumes. During the event, the kids receive free candy and can participate in interactive stations.

There were roughly 2,000 attendees at this year’s event. The interactive stations included coloring, basketball drills, face painting, and a photo booth with football gear to wear. It was fun for all!

The U of I Community Credit Union held a blood drive on Tuesday, September 20th at our First Street and Five Points branch locations. The Community Blood Services of Illinois performed the blood drive inside their Bloodmobile (pictured below). Many U of I Community Credit Union staff members participated in the event through appointments and walk-ins.

We are excited to announce that through the blood drive, the Community Blood Services of Illinois was able to collect 16 pints of blood. This is enough to save 43 lives!

We would like to thank the Community Blood Services of Illinois and all of the blood donors for making this event a success. We are committed to our community, and this event was a great opportunity to give back.

Each year, U of I Community Credit Union awards seven college-bound high school seniors a scholarship up to $1,000 based on the Illinois college of their choice. The Orange & Blue Scholarship Program is designed to benefit students who are U of I Community Credit Union members and will be attending the University of Illinois, Parkland College, and other Illinois colleges and universities.

Scholarship applications are reviewed by a team of volunteers at the U of I Community Credit Union and are given a score based on the information and documents submitted. Applicants are asked various questions including their favorite activities throughout high school, and any honors or awards they have received. They are also required to submit two letters of recommendation and an essay relating to the benefits of credit unions.

The 2016 Orange & Blue Scholarship winners have been announced and were recognized at the Allerton Park Concert Series on Friday, August 5th. This year’s winners are Bethany Burger, Dawson Dodds, Kauryn Karmazinas, Jacqueline Masiunas, Maya McGowan, Zachary Mesplay, and Kathleen Tracy.
